About Concert Pitch
Concert pitch A=440 Hz was adopted as the ISO standard (ISO 16) in 1955. Before standardization, tuning varied widely.
A=415: Baroque tuning, approximately one semitone lower than modern pitch.
A=432: Sometimes called "Verdi tuning." Advocates claim it sounds warmer.
A=440: International standard since 1955. Used by most orchestras worldwide.
A=442/444: Some European orchestras tune slightly higher for a brighter sound.
