Structure: X-XXX-XXXXX-X
- Group ID (language/country)
- Publisher code
- Title number
- Check digit (0-9 or X)
Check digit: Sum of (digit * position), mod 11
Positions: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
If remainder is 10, check digit = X
ISBN-13 Format
Structure: 978-X-XXX-XXXXX-X
- Prefix: 978 or 979 (EAN)
- Group ID (language/country)
- Publisher code
- Title number
- Check digit (0-9)
Check digit: Alternating weights 1,3
Sum of (digit * weight), mod 10
Check = (10 - remainder) mod 10
Barcode Information
ISBN-13 uses EAN-13 barcode format (same as retail products).
Bookland EAN: prefix 978 or 979.
Supplemental 5-digit code encodes the price.
UPC barcodes are NOT the same as ISBN barcodes.
